ALEKS Chemistry Placement
For certain majors (Kinesiology and Nutrition & Dietetics), it’s strongly recommended that you take chemistry placement before registering for classes. All Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, Geology, Physics, Multidisciplinary Science and Medical Humanities majors are required to take the ALEKS Chemistry Placement to be placed into General Chemistry for their first semester at UTSA.
In order to place into General Chemistry (CHE 1103), you must meet one of the following:
- AP Chemistry 3 or greater
- A grade of “C-” or better in CHE 1073
- Above 70% mastery in the ALEKS Chemistry assessment
To access ALEKS Chemistry, log-into ASAP, click on the Student Services tab, then click on the Testing Services Test Registration link, then select Chemistry ALEKS to read about and begin the Chemistry preparation course in ALEKS.
ALEKS Chemistry Testing Fee
The ALEKS assessment system will charge a $45 testing fee, which will be included in your UTSA Tuition and Fees bill. The fee covers access to the ALEKS system for up to one year, the initial assessment, the learning modules and a UTSA administrative fee.
