Meet Dr. Vidya Sharma

Students studying Nutrition and Health will likely meet Dr. Vidya Sharma, a dedicated faculty member from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and a recent graduate of UT San Antonio herself. Dr. Sharma walked the stage in 2024 to receive her Ph.D in Translational Science.

An Evolving Curriculum

As a faculty member, Dr. Sharma had a long-standing ambition to go back to school for her doctorate, and when she finally got the chance as a UT San Antonio assistant professor, she also saw pursuing her Ph.D as a way to enhance her own curriculum. The research she engaged in for her dissertation focused on addressing health disparities in health access and outcomes for older adults. Now, in her course on nutrition and health and disease prevention, her students do similar work by creating intervention plans from evaluated community needs. Dr. Sharma’s focus on learning through hands-on experience and evidence-based practice makes her classes a worthwhile experience for any student, and her story exemplifies what it means to be a lifelong learner.

"Coming from India, and [seeing] a lot of first-gen students here on campus, it makes you feel really proud about their accomplishments."
