Get to Know Canaan

When Canaan Eggers was searching for a place to continue his education, he knew exactly what he wanted in a university. He wanted a Texas institution that could provide the support he needed to pursue his goal of joining the U.S. Air Force. When his best friend told him he’d be attending UT San Antonio, he realized the university was exactly what he was looking for. He enrolled alongside his friend as a computer science major.

Military-Friendly Campus

UT San Antonio is nationally recognized for its support of military-affiliated students with resources like the Center for Military-Affiliated Students. The university’s Air Force and Army ROTC detachments are backed by several military bases present in San Antonio. Their strong ROTC program and supportive environment empowered Canaan to thrive, gaining skills and experience that would prepare him for a smooth transition into a military career.

A Path to Success

After enrolling, Canaan joined Detachment 842, the university’s Air Force ROTC program. He also became a deputy squadron commander of the Arnold Air Society squadron. He assisted these organizations with recruitment efforts, volunteering at football games and other events, which helped him learn soft skills and strengthen his sense of community. With everything he’s learned at UT San Antonio and as part of the ROTC program, he plans to commission straight into the Air Force and pursue his goal of becoming a pilot.
