Why Pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Commercial and Digital Music
UTSA’s Commercial and Digital Music program was designed to combine music skills and performance with cutting-edge technology and entrepreneurship, extending beyond traditional music pathways and helping students stand out in the music industry. Students will gain hands-on learning experience and develop skills in music production and technology, songwriting and composition, film and video game scoring, TV and media composition, music management, and more.
Audition Process
This program was created to embrace the evolution of modern musicians and welcomes students with varying musical experience, from traditional instruments to the digital audio workstation (DAW). For the audition process, students can either perform on their principal instrument/voice or submit a portfolio showcasing their creative work as audio engineers, composers, DJs, sonic artists, and more.
Focus Areas
A hallmark of this program is its flexibility, which allows students to tailor this degree to their specific interests and career goals. Students can choose three of the four Focus Areas, then select from a variety of courses within each of those those areas.

Admission Requirements
When you apply to UTSA, you select the major you'd like to study. The choice of major will not impact if you get admitted to the University (all students must meet UTSA's general admission requirements); however, some majors will require additional admission requirements to be able to declare the major your freshman year.
Commercial and Digital Music: In addition to meeting UTSA’s general admission requirements, students must audition on their principal instrument or interview with faculty after submitting a digital music portfolio. Ideally, the audition or interview should take place prior to the student’s first semester at UTSA. If that does not occur, students must audition/interview within two semesters of starting at UTSA. Students may audition/interview to be a music major a maximum of three times. Information on auditions can be found on the School of Music website. |
