Isabella Cano ’22

Biomedical Engineering

Transitioning to life on a college campus isn’t always easy.  That’s what Resident Assistants (RA for short) like Isabella Cano are for. Isabella is a Resident Assistant for Laurel Village, one of UTSA’s Main Campus residence halls.  As an RA, she helps students adjust and makes sure life on campus is a comfortable, fun experience for her residents.

The best way to adjust to life on campus is by getting involved, and there’s no better way to lead than by example. In addition to serving as an RA, Isabella is an Ambassador for the College of Engineering and Integrated Design, where she and other ambassadors volunteer for the college and perform outreach at high schools for potential Future Roadrunners. She is also a member of the student organizations Quality of Life Plus and the Biomedical Engineering Society. Not only does her involvement on campus improve her college life, but helps prepare for the future, too.

“All these experiences have given me the opportunity to have leadership roles where I get to oversee other students and take initiative,” Isabella states. “I have also had the opportunity to network with companies and professors, which has given me great job opportunities.”

Like many students, seeing the campus motivated her to attend UTSA. Upon touring campus, she could easily envision herself as a student at UTSA. She says diversity was another factor that made UTSA stand out for her because “UTSA does an excellent job at celebrating all the diversity and inclusiveness”

Isabella advises new students to get involved around campus and “try new things. Don’t be afraid, because no one is judging you, so just have fun.”
