Get to Know Arwen
Arwen Addison has always had a passion for the arts. Her mother’s work as a professional artist immersed her in the art world from a young age, and she fell in love with it. Even if her goals shifted from time to time, she always came back to her dream of being a working artist. When she enrolled at UT San Antonio, she chose to double major in art and modern language studies and develop her creative skills into a career.
An Affordable Education
The financial aid Arwen received to attend UT San Antonio helped support her enough to dedicate more time to her coursework and artistic development. She was awarded multiple scholarships including the Distinguished Presidential Scholarship and James Avery Artisan Jewelry Scholarship alongside federal and state aid. Thanks to this support, Arwen explored various mediums such as drawing, digital design, embroidery and printmaking. She even studied blacksmithing through a summer fellowship at a craft school in Maine.

Professional Development
These opportunities encouraged Arwen to engage in more experiences outside of the classroom. She sold her printmaking work at various art shows and even assisted on a mural project with local artist Cristina Sosa Noriega. Her Japanese studies in the modern language program further inspired her to incorporate traditional Japanese art, history and culture into her work. After graduation, she plans to teach English in Japan while continuing to work on her art.
“I’ve had so many experiences and interactions with professors and professionals through UT San Antonio. That kind of exposure is really valuable."
