Get to Know Ernesto
Ernesto Flores is one of many students who took advantage of UT San Antonio’s status as a Carnegie R1 research institution. As a physics major, his immersion in research during his time at the university paved the way towards a bright future.

Becoming a Researcher
Ernesto fully immersed himself in research while at UT San Antonio. He was part of the Engineering, Science, and Math Educational Diversity (ESTEEMED) program, which gave him and other participating students early access to research opportunities and professional development training. With a resource like the ESTEEMED program, he was able to participate in several research opportunities like the National Science Foundation (NSF) summer research program and a research fellowship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).


Getting Recognition
Ernesto’s research journey at UT San Antonio opened some exciting doors. He was handpicked to represent the university at the Texas Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol and shared his work at several major conferences. These experiences didn’t just boost his résumé, they equipped him with the skills and confidence to thrive after graduation, whether in graduate school or a professional research career.
