Get to Know Fred

Fred Thompson recognized UT San Antonio as the perfect place for him to continue his education because he knew the resources the university offers would help him achieve his goals and allow him to grow both personally and intellectually.

Choosing a Major

Fred has always been passionate about understanding history and pursuing social justice. He decided to channel these interests into his studies by majoring in politics and law. Taking a course on African American studies ignited his interest in the subject and made him realize how much more there was to learn on the subject, so he chose to add an African American studies minor.

Experiential Learning

Fred credits his internship with the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum as a standout experience as a Roadrunner. Through his internship, he worked on projects revolving around oral histories and assisted with a Green Book exhibit exploring travel guides used by African Americans during segregation. These projects helped Fred realize how law and history intersect, and how these as well as community perspectives can contribute to activism and advocacy. Fred plans to use the skills and experiences he’s gained from UT San Antonio to attend law school, hoping to secure a career as a lawyer where he can represent and uplift underrepresented communities.
