Laura Barnes is an Honors College student with a double major in computer science and mathematics of data and computing. Her journey at UT San Antonio was filled with opportunities for leadership and professional development.

Choosing a Double Major

Laura’s interest in computer science began in high school, but once she got to UT San Antonio she discovered mathematics of data and computing and saw the possibilities of her double major. The versatility of her majors gave her the opportunity for a career in fields like software engineering, video game development, data science and cybersecurity.

Getting Involved

Laura immersed herself in the computer science community at UT San Antonio which helped her grow professionally. She served as the secretary for the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and was vice president of Rowdy Creators, an organization that allows students to collaborate on tech projects throughout a semester as a means of experiential learning. Along with joining organizations, she also participated in several hackathons, one of which led her to a business venture through Geekdom.
