Get to Know Margot
Margot Duque is a Top Scholar and a public service leader in the making. Her study abroad experience as a high school senior introduced her to fellow American students from different backgrounds with different experiences in public education. Margot returned to the U.S. with a newfound interest in pursuing a career in education policy, prompting her to choose a major in public administration and policy.


Hands-on Experience
While at UT San Antonio, Margot stayed busy preparing for her future career. She interned with the SAISD Foundation where she helped organize book drives for underfunded schools. She also worked as an Ambassador of the City of San Antonio in the office of District 8 Councilman Manny Pelaez. After serving as an ambassador, she assisted with launching a college internship program for first-generation college students through the regional economic development organization greater:SATX.
A Truman Scholar
Margot was selected as one of 2023’s Truman Scholars, a nationally competitive scholarship and a prestigious award. As a Truman Scholar, Margot received up to $30,000 to attend graduate school. In the summer of 2023, she furthered her academic journey at Carnegie Mellon University through the Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute, a prestigious program designed to equip students for advanced degrees in public policy.
