Becoming an Educator

Maria started out in the army, but after a while she left to focus on her family. Constantly volunteering at her daughter’s school sparked her interest in the field of education. She started working as a substitute teacher, then a bilingual tutor, until finally she chose to fully commit to being an educator. Maria felt right at home at UT San Antonio. With its strong military community and a bicultural-bilingual education program that spoke to her passions, it was exactly where she needed to be to chase her dreams.

Achieving Goals

Maria got the chance to manage her own Pre-K bilingual classroom. The UT San Antonio faculty helped Maria gain an understanding and pride of her culture and language, which she put into practice in the classroom. She made sure to incorporate Spanish and cultural activities into the curriculum, which her students loved. Maria’s time at UT San Antonio shaped her journey in powerful ways, helping her turn her aspirations into reality and launch a fulfilling career as an educator.
