Get to Know Rocio
Rocio Miramontes chose to dedicate herself to the field of education thanks to the learning environment UT San Antonio provided. She graduated with a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies EC-6 bilingual and a full-time position secured.
Finding the Right Path
At first, Rocio considered fields like nursing and computer science in the interest of pursuing a well-paying career, but her time at UT San Antonio changed her mind. The classes she attended while at the university helped her reconnect with her Mexican heritage and inspired her to be an educator who could help her students embrace their own cultures.
Getting Career Ready
Through her program, Rocio gained clinical teaching experience in a real classroom. Her work at a local dual language academy involved collaborating on lesson plans, leading small group instruction and decorating the classroom. This experience helped prepare her for the full-time position she was offered as a 2nd grade dual language instructor at Los Reyes Elementary.
