Get to Know Jordan

A desire for a career change brought Jordan Miller to UT San Antonio after ten years out of the classroom and in the workforce. As a Roadrunner, she found her academics fulfilling and the campus culture as vibrant and inviting as the city of San Antonio, confirming for her that her decision to attend the university was the right one.

Choosing a Career Path

When Jordan decided to go back to school, she searched for job fields that were needed everywhere. This led her to major in statistics and data science. She later added a second major in mathematics after rediscovering her passion for it in her coursework and getting inspired by her professors. She hoped to inspire her peers in turn by working as an undergraduate assistant at the Math Gym, a lab for mathematics students to get help on their assignments.

Professional Development

Jordan found many opportunities outside the classroom to further her skills and prepare for her future career. She participated in UT San Antonio’s Rowdy Datathon, an annual weekend-long hackathon, in which she earned second place. The Najim Strategist Program also allowed Jordan to work as a consultant and find business solutions with her peers for local nonprofits. As part of the UT San Antonio Center for Data Science’s first cohort of undergraduate research fellows, she conducted a study alongside a faculty member that won first prize at UT San Antonio’s Los Datos Conference.
