Military Affiliated & Veterans

Whether acquiring skills for use in your military career or making the transition to civilian life, UTSA recognizes the skills, work ethic and leadership potential of military personnel and veterans. Offering a series of support services to ensure veteran and military-affiliated student success, UTSA has been recognized as a Gold Military Friendly School for 2020-2021 (Viqtory Inc. 2020) and the #3 most military-friendly university in the U.S. (Victory Media, Inc. 2018).

Incoming student veterans can qualify for admission as a freshman, freshman transfer, transfer, or a UTSA returning student. Please review the admission options outlined below to determine which option you qualify for.

Freshmen Applicants

If you are a veteran who has graduated high school and not previously attended a college or university since high school graduation, you must meet UTSA freshman admission requirements.

ACT or SAT scores and high school transcripts are required for freshman admission. Scores must be taken within 5 years of the semester you are applying for.

Freshmen Transfer/Transfer Applicants

Veterans who have attended a college or university after high school must meet UTSA transfer admission requirements. Admission requirements vary depending on the number of transferrable credit hours completed.

Returning Applicants

Former UTSA students who have not been in attendance for more than three consecutive semesters (summer term included) must re-apply for admission and meet returning student admission requirements.

Students who withdrew from the University to perform military service (not including Texas National Guard training exercises) will not have to requalify for admission and may be readmitted by the Office of the Registrar upon a request made within one year of being released from active military service.

Major Information

Some majors may have additional admission requirements. To determine if your intended major has additional requirements, visit the Major Specific Admissions Requirements.

Credit for Military Transcripts

Submission of military transcripts is not required for admission. However, applicants can submit their military transcripts to review for UTSA elective credit eligibility. As a Serviceman’s Opportunity College (SOC) institution, UTSA awards credit on a limited basis for military coursework.

In order for credit to be awarded, a student should submit an official Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS) or an official Sailor/Marine/Ace Registry Transcript (SMART) listing all military coursework completed to UTSA. Official Joint Services Transcripts can be requested online at https://jst.doded.mil/.
