“Representing UTSA for The College Tour was an amazing experience!”
Meet Amanda
I am a first -generation student and it was honestly terrifying to come to college — I was going into this whole new world basically blind and not sure what to think or what to expect. The LEAD Academy program prepared me and gave me skills to get through all four years of college and just general life skills to help me as an adult be the best I can be.
I am also really thankful for my academic advisor Sylvia Mansour for really taking the time to get to know me and help me build my schedule for college. Even when I considered changing my major, she sat down with me to really talk about what would be best for me and how I can best achieve my goals in life.
My professors pretty much did the same thing. Actually, my professor last semester for my Shakespeare class told us from the first day that teaching us about Shakespeare was only his second priority. His first goal was, and will always be, to create better students, to create good citizens basically. He said that if we could leave his class just like a little more compassionate, a little more innovative, a little more free-thinking and critically thinking, then he did his job right.
That is why I am so proud to be a Roadrunner.
