An international student is defined as anyone who holds a non-immigrant visa (F-1 or J-1) or qualifying dependent visa who are not U.S Citizens or U.S permanent residents, or do not have refugee or asylee status.

Freshman International Applicants
1. Review Admission Requirements
You are considered a freshman applicant if you have completed secondary school and have not previously enrolled at any college or university. Please note certain majors have additional requirements to be admitted directly into the academic program. Review our major pages to see if there are any additional requirements. Students who are admitted to the university are not guaranteed admission to a specific academic program.

2. Submit Admission Application
Submit an application either through ApplyTexas or Common App. Please submit only one application per term. Students interested in a fully online degree program should apply through UTSA Online.
3. Pay Application Fee
You can pay your fee when applying or after you submit your application through the myUTSA Admissions portal. After we receive your application, you will get an email from UTSA to activate your myUTSA Account which will allow you to log in to your myUTSA Admissions portal. Once logged in, find your application under “My Admission Applications.” Click on the orange “Pay Application Fee” button. Select your payment method and follow the instructions. Once you’ve made your payment, you can select the “Return to myUTSA Admissions” button to return to the portal.
Pay Fee by Check or Money Order
If you prefer to pay via check or money order, you can make it out to “The University of Texas at San Antonio”. Please include applicant’s full name and date of birth so the payment matches the correct application. It can be mailed to the following address:

Fee Waivers

4. Send Test Scores from Testing Agency
Send the appropriate TOEFL, IELTS, PTE Academic, iTEP Academic or Cambridge C1 Advanced scores directly from the testing agency. See the tab section below for scores that meets the UTSA’s English Language Proficiency requirement.
5. Submit Transcript / Academic Documentation
All documents must have an official English translation. See the tab below for additional information.
Additionally, each country requires specific documentation when applying to UTSA and all submitted documents must be translated into English: North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania.

Transfer International Applicants
1. Review Admission Requirements
You are considered a transfer applicant if you have completed secondary school and have previously enrolled in a college or university. Transfer applicants with less than 30 semester hours of academic credit earned at the time of applying must also submit the requirements for freshman applicants. Please note certain majors have additional requirements to be admitted directly into the academic program. Review our major pages to see if there are any additional requirements. Students who are admitted to the university are not guaranteed admission to a specific academic program.

2. Submit Admission Application

Graduate International Applicants
Graduate applicants are students who have earned a bachelor’s degree and are seeking to pursue a Master’s or Doctoral degree at UTSA. Students interested in pursuing a graduate certificate or enrolling in graduate courses without entering a degree program are classified as a non-degree seeking “special graduate student”.

Test Scores and Other Documentation
English Translation Documents
All documents must have an official English translation. All documents related to international student admissions must be sent to the Office of Admissions:

Attestations of Original Documents:
- When an original document cannot be duplicated according to the secondary school, university, or examining board policy, attested copies may be substituted.
- Attestations MUST be obtained either from the issuing college/university, the Controller of Examination/Records or the Principal.
- Attestation must include the appropriate signature and official stamp.
- Copies attested by notary officials, translators, head of the department, lecturer, other government posts, etc., are not acceptable substitutes.
English Language Proficiency
All international students must prove proficiency in English by submitting scores from an approved English language proficiency exam. Students must send these scores directly from the testing agency. Those who do not meet minimum English Language Proficiency requirements may still be eligible for admission through International Pathway.
Freshmen and Transfer Applicants: Approved English language proficiency exams include TOEFL, IELTS, PTE Academic, iTEP Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced and Duolingo English Test (DET).
Graduate Applicants: Approved English language proficiency exams include TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo English Test (DET).

Immigration Documents
All international students enrolling at UTSA must submit immigration documents by the first day of class via the Student Request Portal.
What documents will I need to submit?

- Copy of Visa Stamp from Passport (Not applicable to Canadian Citizens)

How do I obtain these documents?
To Obtain Your Visa:
- Apply for your visa as soon as you receive a UTSA I-20 or DS-2019 form from International Student Services.
- Pay the SEVIS fee online at FMJfee.com.
- Keep your SEVIS fee receipt. The SEVIS I-901 fee is required for all F and J visa students. Without the fee payment, you will not be eligible to apply for your F-1/J-1 visa. You are at risk for termination of your SEVIS record. Learn more about the SEVIS I-901 fee.
- Schedule your visa interview appointment at an American Embassy or consulate – The U.S. Department of State explains how to schedule your appointment.
To Obtain Form I-20 or DS-2019:
- UTSA International Student Services will send this document to you. Be sure to bring the original with you to campus!
To Obtain Form I-94:
- You will receive this at your port of entry if you arrive by land or sea. If you arrive by air, the form will be issued electronically.
- You will need to print out a copy after your arrival in the U.S. It may take 24 to 48 hours for the form to be generated within the system. View the steps to print your I-94.

Admissions Application Opens
We encourage students to apply as soon as the admissions application for the term they are interested in opens up. Please note open dates are subject to change.

Admissions Deadline
All required documents, transcripts, fees, and test scores must be on file by 5:00 p.m. on the date of the deadline. Deadlines that fall on a weekend or UTSA holiday will be extended until 5:00 p.m. the following business day. Applicants whose files are not completed by the final deadline will not be considered for admission to UTSA for the semester to which they applied. Students interested in fully online programs should follow UTSA Online deadlines.

After you Apply
Check Your Email
Once you submit your application. It can take up to two business days for the application to be received by UTSA once it is submitted.
Once UTSA receives your application, you will receive an e-mail from us confirming the receipt of your application. Shortly after, you will also receive a second email from “UTSA Accounts” to claim your myUTSA ID.
Claim Your myUTSA ID
You will be issued your “myUTSA ID” once UTSA receives your admission application. Your myUTSA ID consists of 3 letters and 3 numbers (example: abc123), which will provide you access to your myUTSA Account student portal where you can check your admission status.
Your myUTSA ID must be activated and a passphrase created by the applicant before they will be able to access any UTSA systems. If you run into any issues claiming your myUTSA ID, please contact UTSA One Stop at 1-210-458-8000 or 800-669-0919.
Check Your Admission Status
Once you have your myUTSA ID, you can log into your myUTSA Admissions portal to check your admission status. Once logged in, you will find your application under “My Admission Applications” section. There you’ll be able to review your admissions status. If you click on the orange “Review Details & Checklist” at the bottom of the tile, you can see if your missing any application items. If you’re admitted to UTSA, you’ll see additional information such as your Rowdy Ready Checklist and your Academic Standing.
Apply for International Student Aid
International students do not qualify for federal aid (and are not eligible for the FAFSA). To assist international students with their educational costs, UTSA participates in two programs (International Student Grant and Good Neighbor Program) that international students may apply for to receive funding.
