Get to Know Aisha
From not being able to get past the login screen of her computer to walking the stage with honors and a degree in computer science, Aisha Bah has overcome many challenges thanks to the support and resources she found at UTSA. Aisha is a first-generation Honors College student who didn’t let anything stand in the way of her academic success.
Finding the Right Path
Aisha came to the United States in 2019 from Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia. With her mother’s encouragement, Aisha transferred to UTSA as an international student from the Stella Maris Polytechnic University, where she was studying agricultural science. Growing up in Liberia in the midst of a civil war meant limited access to the digital world. That’s a major part of why she chose to major in computer science at UTSA. Despite never having even owned a computer, she saw computer science as a way she could not only advance her education and career, but as an opportunity to address technological issues affecting underdeveloped countries.
Getting Involved
While at UTSA, Aisha founded the International Students Association in 2020, and the group became an official university organization in 2021. She also served as a member of the UTSA President’s Student Advisory Council, where she used her position to advocate for her fellow international students. Aisha also engaged in multiple professional development opportunities at UTSA, including an internship in New York with the Hybrid Software Engineering Department at IBM.

"As a first generation student, UTSA has truly helped me over the years."
