Engaging in Research

While at UT San Antonio, Amber participated in several research opportunities, starting as early as her freshman year when she joined two laboratories as a research assistant. These labs allowed her to learn skills outside of her field of study like programming languages and computer science techniques. She was able to apply those skills in research about social psychology, political science and political discourse.

Study Abroad to Career Abroad

As a Top Scholar, Amber was required to participate in a study abroad program. She studied abroad multiple times, one of which was to Germany for a research fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in 2021 as a Fulbright Scholar.

Research and study abroad weren’t the only things Amber found through the UT San Antonio. She also found love with her fellow Top Scholar Kurt Johnson. Now happily married, the two went from studying abroad in Germany together to living in Germany together.
