Get to Know Ana
Ana Vallejo knew what she wanted in her ideal university. She sought a Texas university that could challenge her academically while also fulfilling her desire for a strong sense of community. The school’s strong connection to the local community and its designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution initially drew her attention, while its welcoming atmosphere left a lasting impression.
Becoming a Top Scholar
As Ana considered attending UT San Antonio, she was encouraged to apply to the Top Scholar program. This premier scholar program provides high-achieving students with a comprehensive four-year scholarship, close mentorship and leadership development and service opportunities. She was selected as one of ten Top Scholars in her cohort, and the program gave her the chance to start off her first semester already having her own built-in community.
Experiential Learning
Ana chose to double major in neuroscience with a concentration in behavioral neuroscience and psychology with a minor in French. Thanks to her extensive support system on campus, Ana found a wealth of incredible academic and experiential opportunities that allowed her to explore how her fields of study intersect. She participated in undergraduate research in the Wicha Brain, Language and Cognition Lab and the TARDIS Lab, studied abroad in both Italy and Senegal through campus and external study abroad programs respectively and furthered her psychology studies through Oxford University’s Lady Margaret Hall Summer Programme thanks to her Top Scholar funding. Ana walked the stage having already secured plans to continue her education at a French university, and she’ll carry the transformative experiences she had at UT San Antonio there and beyond.
