Feeling at Home at UTSA
Beverly Quintana was born and raised in San Antonio, and her appreciation of the city led her to UTSA. The location, sense of community and status as a Hispanic-serving Institution were main factors in Beverly’s decision to attend UTSA. Beverly found her own communities as a first-generation and Honors College student.
Professional Development
As a Roadrunner, Beverly has made the most of her opportunities. She found employment with the UTSA Finance department as part of the work-study program. Work-study is a form of federal financial aid that allows students to work part-time on campus, earning money towards their school fees. This form of financial aid also gives Beverly the benefit of gaining work experience while having a flexible schedule. “I get to build skills for my resume, and engage with professors that I wouldn’t have engaged with otherwise.” She’s also built connections with important members of her major’s department, including the Finance Department Chair, Dr. Karan Bhanot.
Building a Network
Beverly’s professional development extends beyond her work-study position. She’s been accepted into the UTIMCO Scholars Program, a mentoring program that helps first-generation students and Pell Grant recipients who are interested in investment and asset management careers. The students hear from CEOs and other representatives from successful corporations to help them build meaningful business connections and learn more about the industry.
Beverly is well on her way to becoming a successful member of the business world, thanks to the tools and opportunities provided by UTSA.
