Get to Know Madeline

Madeline Morales didn’t get many chances to travel while growing up in San Antonio. That’s why when she enrolled at UT San Antonio, she wanted to take full advantage of study abroad opportunities available to undergrad students on campus like her.

Study Abroad

As a Top Scholar student, Madeline was able to travel to Thailand for an internship with full financial support from the program. The Global Initiatives Office on campus helped her organize and plan the trip. She was eager to apply what she’d learned in her environmental science program to a real-world context by visiting one of the nations most impacted by climate change and helping the people most affected by it. She spent her time in Thailand working with a local nonprofit organization where she assisted with child rights advocacy and even helped write a grant worth twenty thousand dollars to fund heart surgeries for patients in underserved communities.

Career Readiness

Madeline’s study abroad experience solidified her interest in a career within the nonprofit sector. She participated in an internship with a local renewable energy startup, and she also co-founded a local organization that has distributed thousands of trees to the San Antonio community. With the university’s support, Madeline gained a rich set of real-world experiences for her chosen career field and graduated ready to achieve her goals.

“[UT San Antonio] is truly a class-into-careers [university].”
