Get to Know Madison

Madison Hornback originally came to UT San Antonio to join the Division I softball team, but over time, it was the community that solidified the university as a home away from home. From her faculty to campus resources, she found all the support she needed to thrive as a student-athlete.

A Supportive Community

As a student athlete, Madison navigated a packed schedule between classes, sports and extra-curricular activities. Luckily, UT San Antonio fosters a supportive environment for all students, including Roadrunner athletes. Her professors understood her commitments for the softball team and worked with her schedule to ensure she could succeed both on the field and in the classroom. Thanks to the balance UT San Antonio provides students like her, she found time between games and classes to give back to the community. She worked at softball camps and assisted with physical education programs at a local elementary school, earning more experience and life skills to aid her future career.

Choosing a Major

Madison’s career goals always involved the sciences, and ultimately, it was her fascination with the complex inner workings of the human brain that led her to major in neuroscience. The faculty, like Raymond Sadeghi from the Department of Chemistry, kept her engaged in the classroom and made complex material easy to understand. She also took advantage of the tutoring resources available on campus, which further aided her in staying on top of her classwork through her demanding schedule. By the time Madison was ready to walk the stage, she felt adequately prepared to tackle medical school and pursue her dream career as a pediatric hematologist and oncologist.
