Get to Know Mia
Mia Mireles wanted an education that could allow her to create change in communities like the one she grew up in, which led her to get her bachelor’s in psychology at UT San Antonio while minoring in neuroscience, with plans to continue her studies at the university by joining the social work master’s program.

Securing a Future
Mia got the opportunity to attend college thanks to the aid of the Bold Promise program. She took full advantage of the program and chose to study psychology and neuroscience, which she felt she could use to help people in low-income communities like her home in San Antonio’s Southeast side. Where she grew up, she noticed a lack of access to mental health, and the opportunity for a higher education empowered her to help solve the problem herself.

Supporting Success
UT San Antonio provided Mia with all the tools she needed to succeed. She found support as a first-generation student through the First-Generation and Transfer Student Programs. Mia was also a part of the Honors College, which greatly aided her in personal and professional development during her studies. Another standout part of Mia’s college experience was the faculty of the College for Health, Community and Policy and psychology department, many of whom showed a passion for the field that Mia admired and found inspiration in.
“UTSA’s Bold Promise program was like a gift from heaven and made it possible for me to come here.”
