Get to Know Michael
Michael, a UTSA Top Scholar, is majoring in public administration and policy as part of the class of 2026. A native who loves San Antonio, he says,“I feel like UTSA is a campus that embodies the community that it’s in.” He continues to display that love for San Antonio every time he steps into a bold new opportunity, right here in our community.
Listening and Learning from Your Community
Michael entered into his first summer after freshman year with a unique program from the UTSA Honors College. UTSA Citymester gives selected students an experiential learning internship alongside San Antonio community partners. His summer was spent with local San Antonio journalist, Bob Rivard, as part of the launch team for the Bigcitysmalltown podcast. It’s undeniable that there is a better understanding of public administration and policy when you take the time to intentionally listen to the people within your community.
Bold Advocacy
Michael’s passion to serve his community comes full circle, back to campus. Whether he is serving a UTSA LGBTQ+ student organization or the university’s Multicultural Advisory Council (MAC), he continues to be an advocate in various spaces.

"There’s also a lot of care for each individual scholar as a person, and a lot of care put into their aspirations and their goals.”
