Get to Know Miranda

Miranda Boggan recently completed her bachelor’s in psychology and a minor in business administration at UTSA and plans to continue her education with UTSA graduate studies in behavior analysis. During her time as a Roadrunner, Miranda was a member of the Honors College, an officer in the Student Psychology Association, and an assistant in a neuroscience research lab.

In the Spotlight

Finding a Career Path

Miranda decided to major in psychology, though she was unsure about her career path. At first, she was drawn to criminal profiling. However, she discovered a passion for helping people, especially those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Following a three-month paid internship at the Autism Treatment Center, Miranda continued her training at Little Spurs Autism Centers, which cater to children with ASD. Here, she found her calling. “I get to teach kids while we are playing, so they are having fun while learning,” she said.

Learning through Experience

Miranda presented her work with children with autism at the Roadrunner Experience Showcase, an annual competition hosted by the UTSA Najim Center for Innovation and Career Advancement. She shared insights from her internship and connected with industry professionals, UTSA faculty, staff and students.

Overcoming her fear of public speaking, Miranda won second place and formed a heartwarming connection. “A mother came up to me and told me that she was so appreciative of the work I and others are doing for those with ASD, and that her three-year-old son had just recently said the word “Mama” for the first time,” she said. “We both ended up crying happy tears.”

Moving Forward

Miranda graduated in Fall 2023. Before crossing the stage, she was the keynote speaker at the Honors College Stole and Laurel Ceremony, where students receive their honors stole. Miranda spoke about overcoming her fear of public speaking, adjusting to college life and advised her peers to “take it day-by-day instead of worrying so much about the future.” Looking ahead, Miranda plans to return to UTSA for a master’s in behavior analysis through the College of Education and Human Development.
